Man Luo — A literature start that opened the arts world

I left for France in 2016 on a literature track and finished the BAC Littérature with a 15.8/20. Later I moved to the UK for musical theatre. The language and critical thinking I built in France now power my freedom on stage.

I. Study overview

Hi, I’m Man Luo. In 2016 I came to France to study the literature track in high school and completed the BAC Littérature with a 15.8/20 score.

After graduation, I kept exploring the arts by heading to the Leeds College of Music for a major in musical theatre performance, then completed a master’s at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

I’m now based in the UK as a musical theatre actor and producer, taking the language and critical thinking I built in France onto a broader international arts stage.

II. What France gave me

I truly valued my French high school years. The curriculum was solid, and teachers encouraged us to connect literature, philosophy, and other subjects, which trained me to think independently and present ideas clearly.

My teachers and classmates were welcoming to international students and helped us integrate. Through that support, I became comfortable with French language and ways of thinking—skills that shaped my later studies abroad.

Even now in the UK, French and the cross-cultural vision I gained in France remain part of my creative work, letting me move easily between different teams.

III. Advice for younger students

1. Embrace local culture and daily life. Don’t stay only with familiar circles—experience French humanities and arts events so your time abroad feels warm and meaningful.

2. Plan study and life with discipline. Self-management is the basis of enjoying freedom. Setting goals and using time well helps you reach your potential in an open learning environment.

IV. Closing thoughts

Studying in France built a firm academic base and gave me confidence on international arts stages. The critical thinking and language skills I gained there continue to support every step of my creative journey.

I hope students who love literature and the arts will find their own courage and inspiration in France—and carry it onto the world’s bigger stages.
